Legal Rights of Residents vs Railroads?
I live in NJ along what was a seldom used track that services Mt. Holly. There are usually two trains ping each day (one going and the same one returning). Formerly the trains traveled at 5-10 mph and blew the horn once or twice at crossings. Lately they have been picking up speed to 25 mph and blowing a much louder horn for about 4x longer, they have also been running an occasional night train, just as loud, at 2AM. The township Manager says the train can do what it wants since they dont regulate it. Perhaps, or the township manager just wants to promote industrial development, and the train offers a good enticement. However, this town was established in 1690 and I would think many of the houses in town predate the arrival of the train. Is there anything that can be done to quiet them a little?
